Pycroft Again! Same Referee Set for High-Voltage India vs Pakistan Super 4 Clash

Once again, we are set to witness one of the biggest cricket rivalries - India vs Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 stage on September 21, 2025, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Last time, when Pycroft officiated in the match between both the teams on September 14, 2025, it turned into a huge controversy and now, he is back again to officiate in another clash betwen India and Pakistan.

Who is Andy Pycroft?

Andy Pycroft is a former cricketer from Zimbabwe and now a senior ICC match referee. With years of experience, he has been part of many international matches and is known for being calm, strict, and fair in his decisions. But when it comes to India vs Pakistan matches, every small decision gets noticed and often turns into a debate.

Background of the Controversy

Andy Pycroft became the center of a major controversy during the group stage match between India and Pakistan on September 14. The drama started when Pycroft reportedly informed four minutes before the toss that the Indian side didn't want to have a handshake between the captains.

This no handshake directive was influenced by political tensiosn and national senitments, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accused Pycroft of mishandling his responsibilities and sideing with the Indian Team.

However, it needs to be mentioned that there's no rule or law that captains or players need to do a handshake during the toss or after the match; It is just a nice gesture and sportsmanship from the teams.

PCB demanded the removal of Pycroft from officiating any further Pakistan matches in the tournament. ICC rejected their appeal as the referee didn't break any rule or law. However, PCB didn't stop here; they started threatening to boycott their group stage match against the UAE.

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stood firm and rejected all the PCB's demands. PCB shared a video on their social media handle, and they claimed that Andy Pycroft apolozied to coach and captain Salman Ali Agha for his mistake, but there was no audio in the video.

Later on, with a delay of one hour, Pakistan played their last group stage match against the United Arab Emirated (UAE). Now, Andy Pycroft will again be the match referee during the India vs Pakistan clash in Super 4, but this time, things are expected not to go that way as it went earlier.
