No IND vs PAK at Olympics? New Qualification Twist Explained | LA Olympics 2028

India vs Pakistan has always been a hot topic in any ICC tournaments, but as per the reports, there will be no IND vs PAK match in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 after the new Qualification system was introduced by ICC. A total of 12 teams were about to participate in this tournament.
Earlier, the top six teams in the ICC T20I rankings would qualify directly for the LA Olympics 2028. With this rule, Pakistan has almost confirmed they will qualify as they are 7th spot in the latest ICC T20 Team Rankings and have a very close margin with no.6 (West Indies).
But now, in the latest ICC meeting held in Dubai, the qualification rule has changed. As per reports, the ICC and Olympic Committee agreed to a new structure. Now, the top-ranked team from each continent will get direct qualification in the LA Olympics 2028. The remaining team will have to play in the global qualifier round.
Who Qualifies Directly Today?
If we see direct qualification based on continents, then the teams listed below are the ones that will directly get into the LA Olympics 2028.
Asia - India
Europe - England
Africa - South Africa
Oceania - Australia
America - West Indies
Why No India vs Pakistan in the LA Olympics 2028?
Five Teams are expected to confirm their spot as they are the top-ranked teams from each cricketing region (Aisa, Europe, Oceania, Africa). Pakistan is ranked no.2 in Asia and the Indian Team is consistently performing exceptional in international cricket. So, it’s not going to be an easy task for Pakistan to overtake India as the No. 1 team in Asia.
Pakistan will have the last chance in the global qualifier round for the sixth spot, but there will be teams like New Zealand and Sri Lanka, who can give Pakistan a tough competition. So, the chances of India vs Pakistan in the LA Olympics 2028 are quite low.
