The biggest update of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is here: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has officially confirmed that MS Dhoni is not retiring yet, and he is set to play the IPL 2026. For the last few months, there were many discussions and rumors that MS Dhoni will not play IPL 2026 and might announce his retirement anytime.

In a recent interview with Provoke Lifestyle, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed Dhoni’s IPL future. Viswanathan answered fan questions regarding Dhoni, he was asked directly If Dhoni would retire before IPL 2026, and Viswanathan responded clearly, “No, he’s not going to retire.”

Viswanathan also added that he would check with Dhoni himself about any future retirement plans, but for now, Dhoni remains an active and committed member of the Chennai Super Kings squad. This is a massive relief for the CSK fans who want Thala to play the upcoming season.

Will IPL 2026 be the last season of MS Dhoni?

It’s almost now confirmed that MS Dhoni will be playing the upcoming IPL 2026 season, but fitness is going to be a huge concern for him, which will decide his IPL future. MS Dhoni is already 44 years old and even at this age, Dhoni is activately working on his fitness from training hard to controlling his diet.

Dhoni’s legacy with Chennai Super Kings:

Since the IPL's first season in 2008, Dhoni has been part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and led the franchise to win five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023). Dhoni has been the backbone of the franchise, and he is known for his leadership skills; however, now he has stepped down as captain.

Dhoni’s role moved from leadership to grooming young talents and passing his legacy to players like Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, in the last season, Ruturaj Gaikwad missed half of the season due to injury, and MS Dhoni led the team, but they still had a bad season as CSK finished at the bottom of the points table.
