WPL 2026 Retention LIVE: Rules Explained, Purse Balance, Price Slabs & Retained/Released Players List

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 retention update is here, all five franchises have to submit their retention list before November 05, 2025. After India's Women’s World Cup victory, the value of those players in the WPL is expected to go high. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the retention rules for the upcoming WPL 2026 auction.
Each WPL team can retain a maximum of five players ahead of the mega auction set for November 27, 2025, in New Delhi.
Up to Three Capped Indian Players
Up to Two Overseas Players
Up to Two uncapped Indian Players
If a franchise chooses to retain all five players, at least one of them must be an uncapped Indian cricketer. Salary cap slabs for retention are fixed, and the Right-to-Match (RTM) card system is introduced for the first time in the Women’s Premier League. This allows teams to reacquire released players during the WPL 2026 Mega Auction.
WPL 2026 Retention Price Slabs:
All five franchises have a fixed budget of Rs. 15 crore to build their squad for the upcoming season.
Player 1: Rs. 3.5 Crore
Player 2: Rs. 2.5 Crore
Player 3: Rs. 1.75 Crore
Player 4: Rs. 1 Crore
Player 5: Rs. 50 Lakh
If a franchise retains all five players, a total of Rs. 9.25 crore is deducted from their purse, and then, teams will have the remaining Rs. 5.25 crore for the WPL 2026 Auction.
WPL 2026 Right to Match (RTM) Rule:
The Right-to-Match (RTM) is going to be introduced for the first time in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.
Teams retaining five players cannot use RTMs.
Retaining three players can give one RTM.
Retaining three players can give two RTMs and so on.
