Mohsin Naqvi to be expelled from cricket, India will crack down on the Asia Cup trophy thief, this is the master plan of the BCCI
The controversy surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup continues unabated. Despite India defeating Pakistan in the final to win the trophy, Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi is reluctant to hand over the trophy to India. According to a PTI report, the trophy is kept at the ACC headquarters, but the PCB chief has issued strict instructions that it should not be moved or handed over without his approval.
ICC to take Naqvi's role away
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already made it clear that it will raise Naqvi's behavior with the International Cricket Council (ICC). According to PTI, the BCCI plans to reprimand Naqvi and possibly remove him from his position as a director at the ICC. Earlier, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that the Asia Cup trophy is not Naqvi's personal property and he should return it to India as soon as possible.
"It will be interesting to observe the impact this may have on the PCB or Naqvi, as the BCCI has made it clear that Naqvi was not authorized to personally present the trophy to the Indian team and failed to forward it to the BCCI, which was the event's official host," a source informed PTI.
Chaos erupts after Pakistan's defeat
The eight-team tournament concluded on September 28. The Indian team, captained by Surya kumar Yadav, refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin, who is acts as the home-minister of Pakistan. The post-match prize distribution ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour. The process remained incomplete as neither India nor Naqvi backed down.
India and Pakistan faced each other three times in the Asia Cup. This was the first time the two teams met on the field after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The animosity between the two teams persisted throughout the tournament. The first major incident occurred on September 14th when Suryakumar Yadav's team refused to shake hands with their arch-rivals. This was followed by politically motivated gestures by Pakistani players during the Super 4 match. Haris Rauf's heated exchange with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill also made headlines.
Naqvi gave statement against India
Naqvi also failed to fulfill his responsibilities as ACC President. He repeatedly made political statements against India on his social media. After the Asia Cup, an ACC meeting was held, which led to heated exchanges between Naqvi and BCCI representatives, including Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar.
