MI vs CSK: MS Dhoni just 4 Runs away from a big record, set to join Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli in elite list
MI vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is just 4-runs away from reaching an important milestone in his Indian Premier League (IPL) career. Dhoni, who has been through the thick and thins of this league is moments away from etching his name in the history books once again and joining the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are already up there in the elite list.
As we dug through the stats, MS Dhoni was found to be just 4 runs short of scoring 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He will be the only second CSK player to add the feather of 5000 runs for a franchise on his highly decorated hat in the IPL.
His former CSK teammate, Suresh Raina is the first batter to achieve the milestone. Raina has 5528 runs in 205 games in the IPL.
It's worth mentioning that the record in question is not about scoring 5000 runs or above after having played for multiple franchises in IPL. It's the milestone for a single team in the tournament.
Dhoni has already gone past the 5000 run mark in his IPL career, but some of those runs have come as he was also a part of, the now-defunct, Rising Pune Supergiants back in 2016 and 2017.
However, the CSK wicketkeeper is now on the verge of scoring 5000 runs for Chennai Super Kings as well. He is currently sitting with 4996 runs in 249 outings for CSK.
Notably, RCB batter Virat Kohli was the first player to reach the milestone, having played for a single franchise throughout his career. Kohli has scored 7582* runs for RCB in 243 outings so far.
Mumbai Indians (MI) former skipper Rohit Sharma is the second player on the list to score 5000 or more runs for a single franchise. Rohit had 5041 runs for MI before the start of the IPL 2024 in 198 games. Talking about his overall run tally, he has 6367 runs in 248 IPL games for, now defunct, Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians.
