Manchester City signs a contract with 18-year-old Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri for a term till 2028. Though the youngster will be staying at River Plate as a loan player for the remainder of the season and will join the Etihad next January. 

Echeverri was the captain of the under-17 Argentine side at the World Cup and also scored a hat-trick in a quarter-final against Brazil. Though they were eliminated in the penalties at the semis. City is now all set to welcome the 18-year-old talent into the squad.

Claudio Echeverri gets a four-and-a-half-year contract from Man City

Manchester City confirms the signing of the Argentine under-17 captain Claudio Echeverri for €12.5 million from River Plate. Echeverri is often referred to as the “Next Messi” in Argentina will be staying at River Plate on loan till January next year when he will be included in the Man City squad. 

Echeverri has been a sensation since his youth days when he scored nine goals in seven games at the Champions Trophy Youth Tournament in Venice. He made his first team debut for River Plate in June 2023 and has featured in 6 matches to date. He has also got the opportunity to train with the senior side alongside Messi. 

The 18-year-old will be joining the star-studded side next season with Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland, and Alvarez in the attack. The attacking midfielder will be finding it easy to get a good start to his career in the Premier League. And it’s no surprise that he will be getting a call to the international side in no time soon. 

The four-and-a-half-year contract is effective from 25th January and will end in 2028. Echeverri is very highly rated for his performance and City will be expecting it as a good investment for the future.
