KL Rahul, the poster boy of Indian cricket is under immense scrutiny from the cricket experts in India. And these are not just experts who have never touched a bat and a ball. But former players and analysts of the game. Venkatesh Prasad, Ajay Jadeja, and Robin Uthappa have been vocal about their concern for KL Rahul’s form and intent off-late. Here is an in-depth look at the same:

KL Rahul Criticized Heavily for his Poor Performance:

These are a few lines that the pundits had to say about Rahul. Robin Uthappa in an interview with ESPNCricinfo said, “Both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played at a slower rate than they probably would have liked to bat at. He can do much better and this is an area of concern. Ajay Jadeja on the other hand in an interview with Cricbuzz said that “KL Rahul doesn’t look very confident. He will require more time to get in.”

Venkatesh Prasad was the one who offered a few words of heavy criticism via Twitter. He said, “Is there something in the pitch that is not visible? Simply can’t fathom this approach, especially from KL Rahul.” These comments from such well-established players do seem to concern the Indian cricket fans and the fans of KL Rahul.

Who can replace KL Rahul on Indian Team:

KL Rahul Replacement
One of the top-rated batters by the ICC, Kishan is not even in the squad! IMG SRC: TOI

The Indian Team has had many openers in the recent past. We have seen Deepak Hooda open the innings in Ireland. We have seen Sanju Samson do the same. Ishan Kishan happens to be one of the most highly rated batters by the ICC and is a top-class batter. Shikhar Dhawan is a player who missed the bus to the Asia Cup 2022 team but is another world-class opener. There is a line of openers behind KL Rahul and hence the pressure seems to be building on him. He needs a big performance to shut the critics. List of replacements for Rahul:

  1. Deepak Hooda
  1. Ishan Kishan
  1. Sanju Samson
  1. Shikhar Dhawan
  1. Shubman Gill

Sunil Gavaskar Backs Rahul:

With all the other cricket pundits criticizing Rahul, it is Sunil Gavaskar who chose to speak for him. Gavaskar simply said, “When other players like Avesh Khan are getting a long rope (basically a greater number of chances) why can’t the same be applicable for KL Rahul who is a proven match winner.”

Will KL Rahul be Dropped?

No, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian team believes in giving a player a decent number of chances. He also has a soft corner for KL Rahul. So, it is very less likely that KL Rahul will be dropped after just 2 decent performances.
