Kane Williamson OUT! New Zealand Announce ODI Squad vs West Indies, Matt Henry Returns

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially announced its ODI squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. But New Zealand’s star player and former captain Kane Williamson is set to miss this ODI series. Williamson will be replaced by Matt Henry, who is returning to the squad after recovering from the injury.
This ODI series is all set to start from November 16, 2025, and matches are scheduled in Chirstchurch, Napier, and Hamilton. Kane Williamson was expected to play this ODI series against the West Indies, but team management confirmed that he will skip this series to focus fully on the ICC World Test Championship series against the West Indies.
Williamson recently retired from T20I cricket, and now he wants to shift his focus towards test cricket. He is also not part of the central contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Williamson signed a casual contract to give an opportunity to the young players to feature in the New Zealand core team.
Why is Kane Williamson Missing?
Kane Williamson is not injured; he is just skipping the ODI series to focus on Test cricket. New Zealand coach Rob Watler confirmed that Williamson wants to prepare himself mentally and technically for the very important upcoming Test series.
New Zealand is working on balancing players' workload and reducing the risk of injuries before any major ICC events.
Matt Henry Returns:
New Zealand’s most reliable pacer, Matt Henry, returns to the ODI squad after a long break. He missied some matches earlier due to injury, but now he is fully fit and will be playing at home against the West Indies in the three-match ODI series.
Santner to lead:
Mitchell Santner will continue to be the captain of New Zealand’s ODI side. He recently led New Zealand against England in a three-match ODI series and led his team to victory by 3-0. Santner has become a very important figure in New Zealand Cricket as he brings balance in the squad with both batting and bowling.
New Zealand ODI Squad vs West Indies:
Mitchell Santner (Captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Blair Tickner, Will Young, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith.
