Kane Williamson-led New Zealand overtakes India to become number 1 Test team.

Ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final, New Zealand has overtaken the Indian lead to become number 1 test team in the world.

The kiwis managed to seal the two games test series against England by 1-0 and toppled India in the Test rankings. Kane Williamson and Co. now have 123 rating points while India stands at number 2 with 121 points.

Talking about the two-game Test series against England, the visitors made a comprehensive and bold statement as they thrashed the hosts earlier today. The first game between England and New Zealand ended in a draw while the second is won by the visitors comfortably.

This is New Zealand’s first series win against England in England in the last 22 years.

Kiwi pacer Matt Henry and Neil Wagner rattled through England’s batting line-up on Day 3 and bundled them for just 122 runs in the second innings of England. Trent Boult picked up the wicket of Olly Stone in the first ball of Day 4 and a total of mere 38 runs was given to chase for the Kiwis.

New Zealand comfortably chased down the total of 38 runs on Day 4 at Edgbaston, Birmingham and won the series by eight wickets.

The win is also termed as a strong statement to India, who will be playing against New Zealand in the final of ICC World Test Championship after five days. 

According to the experts, New Zealand will have an advantage against India as they will advance after playing two games against England. Moreover, the situations here in England will favour more towards the Kiwis.

The final of the ICC World Test Championship will begin on June 18th at Rose Bowl, Southampton.
