Jemimah Rodrigues all set to take over the DC captaincy ahead of WPL 2026

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that Delhi Capitals (DC) is all set to name Jemimah Rodrigues as the captain ahead of the fourth edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL). The franchise will make the official announcement on Tuesday (December 23).

Ever since the WPL 2026 concluded, the Delhi Capitals management has made it clear that they want the Indian captain. They released Meg Lanning ahead of the auction and it came as a massive surprise as the guided team to the three finals, but failed to win the title. 

Delhi Capitals has seen Jemimah Rodrigues as a central figure in Delhi's long-term plans from the beginning. In the inaugural edition of the league, she was the first player, DC bid for and was also the first retention for the franchise ahead of auction.

Delhi's other retentions included Jemimah Rodrigues Shafali Verma, Annabel Sutherland (Australia), Marizanne Kapp (South Africa), and uncapped U-19 World Cup-winning captain Niki Prasad. And then they brought in some big names in the auction.

Jemimah Rodrigues has been one of the best batters for India at the international level. She played a massive role in India winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. She played an unbeaten hand of 127 in the semi-final against Australia to help the team win.

Jemimah Rodrigues has played all 27 games for Delhi Capitals in the WPL. In these games, she has hammered 507 runs in 24 innings at 28.16 and a strike-rate of 139.66. She would be keen to bring her best and take her team to win.

Delhi Capitals have come very close to winning the WPL title but haven’t been able to breach that line. Under the leadership of Jemimah, they would be hoping for a different result and end their title drought.
