IPL Points Table: Another defeat for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground – MA Chidambaram Stadium. This time, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have got over the rope against CSK by seven wickets in a low-scoring chase. The win aids them to jump over Gujarat Titans in the IPL Points Table and keeps them afloat in the IPL 2024 Playoff race. More on the IPL Points Table later in the article.

CSK vs PBKS Match Summary

After being put to bat first, CSK got off to a decent start with their openers adding 64 runs for the first wicket. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad extended his brilliant run in the IPL. However, things took a sharp turn as CSK received the first blow in the form of Ajinkya Rahane in the 9th over.

Shivam Dube, the next batter was dismissed for a golden duck by Harpreet Brar in the next delivery after the wicket of Rahane and soon PBKS also got rid of Ravindra Jadeja, thanks to Rahul Chahar.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sameer Rizvi tried to do some damage control following quick dismissals. The two remained too slow in their approach and the pressure kept on building.

Rizvi succumbed to the pressure and lost his wicket in the 16th over at a score of 107 runs, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was the lone warrior played a brilliant 62-run knock in 48 deliveries before getting dismissed.

In the last few deliveries, MS Dhoni tried to accelerate, but could only 14 runs to the tally in 11 deliveries. CSK scored a modest 162 runs in their 20 overs quota.

It was quite an easy job for Punjab Kings, who were helped by the dew as well. With the ball not easy to grip, the batters made most of the opportunity to make CSK suffer.

PBKS, though, couldn’t get off to a good start with Prabhsimran Singh (13 runs) getting dismissed in the powerplay. Jonny Bairstow (46 runs) and Rilee Rossouw (43 runs) stitched a match-winning 62-run partnership and took Punjab’s total to 83 runs in 9.2 overs.

Rilee Rossouw kept firing at the CSK, despite the wicket of Bairstow, and took his side close to the total with his 23-ball 43 43-run innings, before getting bowled by Shardul Thakur.

To finish off things on a brighter note, Shashank Singh (25* runs) and skipper Sam Curran (26* runs)played 50 run partnership.

PBKS chased the 162-run total in just 17.5 overs with seven wickets in hand and handed a defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
