IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma to lead CSK in the IPL after MS Dhoni, predicts Ambati Rayudu
IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma to lead CSK in the IPL after MS Dhoni, predicts Ambati Rayudu: Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who was recently dropped from Mumbai Indians (MI) leadership position, has been tipped to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The development comes as we inch closer to the Tata IPL 2024 opening fixture between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22.
Notably, Mumbai Indians (MI) recently took a landmark decision to swap their leadership with the appointment of all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the new captain of the side, effective from IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma, who led the side for a decade, was left behind after the IPL 2024 auctions.
It was asserted that the decision to have someone other than Rohit Sharma at the helm has been made to ensure that there is a safe transition within the team.
However, the decision upset a lot of individuals, even within the franchise. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah posted some cryptic Instagram stories soon after the decision was made public by the five-time IPL champions.
Interestingly, Rohit Sharma's wife Ritika Sajdeh pointed out head coach Mark Boucher's statements as misleading after the South African made a point that the call to relieve Rohit of captaincy duties is made to give him ample opportunities to excel as a batter, which hasn't been the case in the last couple of years.
The Mumbai batter plundered 268 runs in the Tata IPL 2022 at an average of 19.14. Rohit racked up 332 runs in the IPL 2023 at an average of 20.75.
Rohit Sharma will now be seen taking part in the Tata IPL 2024 as a pure batter only.
Rohit Sharma to lead CSK in IPL: Ambati Rayudu

Amidst all this turmoil, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu has tipped Rohit Sharma to play for CSK in the future once MS Dhoni hangs up his boots. Rayudu, who was a part of CSK's winning campaign in IPL 2023, reckons any side in the world would welcome Rohit Sharma if he seeks the opportunity.
?Rohit Sharma can play IPL for the next 5-6 years. if he wants to captain, the whole world is open for him. He can easily captain wherever he wants. I want Rohit Sharma to play for CSK in 2025, if MS (Dhoni) retires then Rohit can lead as well,? Rayudu said while talking to News24.
Rohit's record as the captain has been stellar. The Indian captain is only second to CSK skipper MS Dhoni in terms of win percentage. Rohit possesses a 55.06 win percentage in his 158 outings as the captain of Mumbai Indians.
