IPL 2024: Ben Stokes to be released by CSK ahead of IPL 2024 Auction: In an important development ahead of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings are set to release Ben Stokes before the auction, scheduled to be held in December. The decision came amidst the reports of Ben Stokes being unavailable for the lucrative T20 league.

Ben Stokes, who was bagged by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2023 Auctions after shelling out a whopping INR 16.25 Crores, played just two games for CSK in the last edition of the IPL.

After featuring in the opening two games, Stokes was sidelined for the rest of the tournament citing injury issues. In the two games, the all-rounder returned with scores of 7 and 8. His bowling, too, remained concerning.

Ahead of the IPL 2024, which is likely to be held in the window between March and May 2024, CSK is reluctant to take chances with the availability of the all-rounder.

It’s worth noting that Ben Stokes is set to undergo a surgical procedure in his left knee. The procedure will require at least two months to recover, which puts his participation in the tournament in jeopardy.

As per the reports available, Ben Stokes indicated that he would consider focusing on the IPL only after the end of England’s campaign in the World Cup 2023. The CSK officials are yet to get in touch with Stokes after his team’s run in the World Cup 2023 ended.

“We would not consider releasing Stokes if he could be available because he is a big match player, and we hold him in the highest regard. But if he can’t make it to the season, we will have blocked Rs 16 crore with which we could acquire some quality players,” said a CSK official.
