The Chennai Super Kings did not have an ideal season in IPL 2022. The team is now looking forward to IPL 2023. It will be keen on forming a formidable squad with the best if available options. So, which are the players that the Chennai Super Kings can release and the ones that are currently adding limited value to the team? The reasons for releasing can range from lack of form to disagreement with the management. Here is an in-depth look:

5) Mitchell Santner will leave CSK in IPL 2023:

The CSK management failed to make effective use of Mitchell Santner this season. They tried almost everything with him but couldn’t give him one role consistently. He walked out to bat at number 3 or number 4 in the initial few games. Later on, he was asked to bat lower down. When Moeen Ali was available, Santner was dropped. In the last game of the season, however, Santner got a chance.

Santner is a senior player. He has been in the cricketing circuit for a very long time. If he is not adding value to the Chennai Super Kings it is about time that the team must let him walk away. He is a gun fielder and a good off-spinner. Whenever required, he can hit the ball a long way. He has also led the New Zealand national cricket team.

4) Moeen Ali might Leave CSK in IPL 2023:

There are very slim chances that Moeen Ali would be released. But the chances aren’t negligible. The reason is the lack of form of Moeen throughout the season. He did show signs of good touch in the final game but that was just about it. Moeen didn’t bowl many overs and also had a flat IPL 2022 with the bat. His injuries have always been a concern for the team. Moeen is a senior player as well and the CSK management had made the strategies around him. His absence in the initial few games cost them the entire season. This might also be the reason because of why the CSK management will be looking for a more reliable commodity.

3) Simarjeet Singh/Tushar Deshpande will leave CSK in IPL 2023:

The availability of Deepak Chahar can ruin the case of Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh, or even KM Asif. All these young bowlers have left an impact on the IPL. They have showcased their skills to other teams. CSK will not leave Mukesh Chaudhary as he is a left-arm pacer and his skillset is rare in the Indian breed. Simarjeet and Tushar however can be approached by any other franchise looking to give them permanent roles.

The arrival of Deepak Chahar next season will eventually mean that these players will be warming the bench. So, the players will be keen on exploring the other opportunities in store for themselves. All the 3 mentioned bowlers bowled exceptionally well in the powerplay overs.

2) Robin Uthappa:

Robin Uthappa has been in and around the IPL for a very long time. He belongs to an elite group of players who were a part of the ICC T20 World Cup victory in 2007. Uthappa still has a lot to offer. But he isn’t getting enough opportunities at CSK. At times Rayudu gets picked or at times Conway comes in. The CSK management has not been consistent with Robin too. He has delivered in almost every decent opportunity that he has got. Failures do come but their rate of success of his is very high.

His partnership with Shivam Dube has been etched in the minds of every cricket fan. One can never forget his style of walking down the track to a fast bowler and slamming him over the in-filed. Uthappa was good with those cross-bat shots too. He is 35+ which means that he brings in a lot of experience.

1) Ravindra Jadeja:

Something looks very wrong between the CSK management and Ravindra Jadeja. Some reports claim that Jadeja left the CSK captaincy on his own while the others say that he had to forcefully give it away. When things go down south, it is always wise on the part of the player to take a step back. The same happened with David Warner last season. He was not on terms with the SRH management so he decided to walk away. He was dropped from the team with injury concern but that certainly doesn’t give a full-proof reason. So, there is a high possibility that Ravindra Jadeja can be released before IPL 2023. He can play for his home team Gujarat Titans.
