IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals are having a torrid run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. It’s fair to say that the absence of Rishabh Pant has left their batting order look clueless as they are yet to register a win in the league after playing two games.
They suffered a massive 50-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and then went to bag a 6-wicket loss against Gujarat Titans. Be it batting or bowling, they so far have failed to step on the crunch situations and put the opposition under pressure.
IPL 2023: 2 Tactical Changes Delhi Capitals Should Do To Return to Winning Ways
Delhi Capitals is now slated to cross swords with Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next game of the IPL 2023 on Tuesday (11th April). It’s still early in the tournament but surely alarm bells would’ve rung in their camp. They have great talent in their squad and all they need do is execute their plans. They are just one win away from gaining all the confidence and returning to winning ways. They just need to do some tactical changes and in this piece, we will take a look at it.
1. Play Phil Slat as wicket-keeper
With Rishabh Pant not being there, Delhi Capitals is lacking a quality wicket-keeper batter. They asked Sarfaraz Khan to play that role and it’s fair to say he was horrible with both bat and gloves. After that, they drafted young Abishek Poral into the team. The Southpaw look good but he doesn’t provide the kind of quality DC needs with the bat this time around.
However, to solve this problem they need to bring in Phil Slat into the team as a keeper. The English batter has been going through fine form in the international circuit and he can strengthen DC’s middle order, which has struggled in the last two games. The presence of Phil Salt in the team can allow skipper David Warner to go hard at the start, which he has not been able to do due to wickets falling at the other end.

2. Mitchell Marsh as an opener
Prithvi Shaw has been going through a torrid run in the ongoing IPL 2023. He has failed drastically in the three games Delhi Capitals have faced. However, batting at the top will hamper his confidence and therefore team should look to rest him for a few games. On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh was in a red-hot form during India vs Australia ODI series. He played staggeringly well batting at the top of the order. Delhi Capitals management should waste his form by sending him under pressure situation.
If he opens the batting, he can take bowlers to the cleaners from the first ball and can give his team a great rollicking start. Although he won’t be available for the game against Mumbai Indians, but he should bat at the top alongside Warner in the team. This will also allow others to express themselves and contribute more.
