IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Shreyas Iyer-spearheaded Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dominated the match number 61 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 54 runs in the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium Pune.

After opting to bat first, KKR put up a total of 177 runs on board in the loss of six wickets. Sam Billings and Andre Russell remained their top scorers with 34 and 49 runs respectively. At the same time, the likes of Nitish Rana, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer scored 26, 28 and 15 runs respectively.

In pursuit of 177 runs total, SRH lost early wickets. Out of form, Kane Williamson along with Rahul Tripathi couldn’t score much. Young opener Abhishek Sharma played a fine underpressure inning of 43 runs from 28 deliveries before getting dismissed while Aiden Markram helped with his 25-ball 32.

KKR continued picking regular wickets and eventually restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad at a score of 123 runs in 20 overs. KKR won the match by 54 runs and bagged two crucial rating points.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have held their nerves and are still in the contest for the top four finish. The crucial win took them to sixth place in the points table with 12 points. They have one more match remaining in their league stage to solidify their place.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hadn’t thought of seeing this when they won five matches on the trot. The loss against KKR is SRH’s fifth consecutive loss after going on a five-match winning streak earlier. The defeat has dented their hopes for the playoffs as the franchise is highly likely to be knocked out sooner than later.

Young batter Abhishek Sharma has shown good signs even though his franchise hasn’t performed well in the last few matches. Sharma has stormed into the top 10 of the highest run-getters ranking after scoring 43 runs against KKR.

Sharma has now the most runs amongst the uncapped players. The southpaw has 374 runs in 12 innings of the IPL 2022 so far and is placed eighth in the orange cap race.

SRH middle-order batter Aiden Markam has also been consistent throughout the tournament. His sheer consistency has helped him reach the tenth spot in the orange cap with 258 runs in 10 innings.

Pace sensation Umran Malik scalped three wickets and ended his three matches wicketless streak. Malik has 18 wickets from 12 matches in the IPL 2022 and is placed seventh in the purple cap race.

Experienced T Natarajan scalped a wicket in the game against KKR and strengthened his position in sixth place, right above Umran Malik. However, Natarajan has 18 wickets under his belt in just 10 matches.

KKR pacers Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav have occupied two positions right below the SRH duo of T Natarajan and Umran Malik. While Russell has 17 wickets, Umesh’s wicket tally increased to 16 after picking the wicket of Aiden Markram.
