The thirteenth season for the Shahrukh owned franchise did not go as per the expectations. The Kolkata-based side started well with four wins in seven games and just want to get four more victories in the next seven games to get a clear ticket to the business end of the cash-rich league.

However, the side was not able to win the required games and was left with some permutations and combinations to qualify for the playoffs. Sunrisers’ win against Mumbai Indians threw KKR out of the race. The midseason captaincy change for the franchise is still a pushback to digest.

Here we brought to you the top 3 players KKR should retain either with retention criteria or with Right To Match.

The Kolkata Knight Riders opener was the only player to score consistently for the franchise. The young lad showed intent while batting and is the future of Indian Cricket. Shubman Gill scored 440 runs in 14 games striking at 117.96 and averaging 33.84.

Aakash Chopra in his recent video suggested KKR to make Gill as the captain of the side. Citing the example of Delhi Capitals, how they polished Shreyas Iyer as a leader and made a team around him. Likewise, KKR should do with Shubman Gill.

Varun Chakravarthy:

The Tamil Nadu based mystery spinner was one of the gains for KKR this season. Everything might seem to go against them but the constant was this young spinner. Varun was the new signing for Kolkata and proved his mettle bowling with an amazing economy of 6.84 in 13 games. The leg-break bowler took 17 scalps in his overall outings.

KKR will be known for the fact that the spinner will be valuable for them in the future. He is young and can play for more than five years. If released in Auctions teams like Rajasthan and Punjab might bid for him and it will become more difficult to get him back.

Although the Caribbean batsman did not perform in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, Russell is the soul of Kolkata Knight Riders. His form directly affected the team’s performance. The powerful all-rounder managed to score mere 117 runs in 10 appearances while picked just 6 wickets.

However, Kolkata might look to retain the all-rounder as the things are not over yet for the West Indies player. If Kolkata releases him to the auctions and thinks to purchase later on, he might get a super expensive bid and KKR will not be able to absorb that.
