IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals signs Kumar Sangakkara as the director of cricket.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: The Rajasthan based franchise signs Kumar Sangakkara as the director of cricket operations for the upcoming fourteenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise on Sunday took Twitter to announce the news among the fans. Sangakkara will join the squad immediately and will start the work process.

The former Sri Lankan skipper is right now seated as the president of Marylebone Cricket Club. He will be responsible for all cricketing actions inside the franchise. Sangakkara will be the man behind every cricketing action of the franchise whether it is auction plan, strategies, coaching structure, talent discovery and development.

Sangakkara after the news rolled out said he is delighted to be a part of the franchise and will work towards the betterment of the team.

“It is a privilege to join Rajasthan Royals as director of cricket and I am really excited for the new chapter. To oversee the cricketing action of the franchise in the most happening cricket league in the world, as well as building the strategies along with other instrumental work with the management, is an opportunity that really motivated me. I have really enjoyed talks with the leadership group of the franchise over the past couple of weeks and can’t wait to get going. The franchise includes some of the big names of the game and it will be fun to work with them,” Sangakkara said.

Rajasthan Royals new skipper Sanju Samson also showed his excitement for Sangakkara’s signing as the director of the cricket.

“I am delighted that he has come on board and we had some good conversation recently. He himself is someone who had a great cricketing career for himself and obviously knows the modern game of cricket. It is always a plus for the franchise to have a director of such a calibre. He was a great wicketkeeper and I would love to work with him. Learning from someone who led his side to the top level in his time is really inspiring.  It is wonderful to have someone like him at the helm and is going to be fantastic to learn from him. I can’t wait to get started and work with him in the coming seasons,” Sanju Samson.

One of the greats of modern-day cricket, Sangakkara in his 16 years long career amassed over 28,000 runs for Sri Lanka. He has the highest Test batting average of any players in last 46 years.
