Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: Former Indian cricketer and two times title-winning captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir shocked with the KKR retaining Kuldeep Yadav. Gambhir was not happy with the decision of the franchise to retain the left-arm spinner in the IPL 2021.
It is worth noting that the experienced spinner featured in just five games for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous 2020 IPL.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir expressed his thoughts. He said, KKR should release Kuldeep Yadav and he must be given chance to play somewhere else, in case, he is not in their plans for future.
“I am a little surprised about Kuldeep Yadav being retained because he did not get the opportunities. I would have wanted to see Kuldeep Yadav go to a franchise where he gets an opportunity to play,” the former left-handed batsman said.
“Because, if you are an experienced cricketer and you have been featured for Indian national team, then warming the bench in the franchise cricket is a danger for your career. I feel KKR should release him and let him explore some opportunities.”
He must be released, if they do not have future plans with him: Gambhir
“Now if they have retained him, then they must play him. Otherwise, Kuldeep Yadav himself would have said, if he is not in their future plans, then he must be released from the team. If any franchise is not allowing an experienced cricketer to play then what’s the point of retaining him, that too an experienced player.”
There will be a lot of franchise who would bid for him. He is star spinner who did miracles in past for India. I am sure the franchise would be interested in him.
“I am sure that if he would come into the auction table then he won’t go unsold. He will get a good price and he can even get an opportunity to play for that franchise.”
