IPL 2022 Mega Auction - Player Retention, Team News, Rules, Purse Value - Updates

IPL 2022: The much anticipated season fifteen of the elite Indian Premier League (IPL) is reported to begin on April 2, 2022. The reports from the BCCI officials confirm the development as the cricket board has conveyed the news to key stakeholders.

The BCCI official further added that the opening fixture of the IPL 2022 will be at Chennai’s Chepauk, which is an obvious choice as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged as the winner’s of the last IPL season. CSK will face their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in the tournament opener in Chepauk on April 2, 2022.

Hitherto, the tournament was an eight teams affair with a total of 60 matches, but now with the increase in the number of participating teams (10), the tournament will have 74 matches and the length of the cash-rich league is reckoned to go beyond two months.

Each IPL team will be playing seven home and seven away matches as there is no change in the format. The IPL 2022 final is expected to happen in the first week of June.

Jay Shah, honorary secretary of BCCI, earlier, during the felicitation ceremony of Chennai’s title win, confirmed the return of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to its home. BCCI scheduled the entire IPL 2020 in the UAE owing to the unprecedented rise in covid cases in India. The IPL 2021 marked the return of IPL in India, however, the league was suspended midway as the covid bio-bubble breach became a concern for the cricket board.

“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” the BCCI secretary had said at the function.
