India Squad For T20 World Cup 2024 Announced, NO Place For KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya Returns as Vice Captain | Indian Team for T20 World Cup
T20 World Cup 2024: ICC main event, the 2024 marque tournament T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner and BCCI have announced the India Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma is set to lead and Hardik Pandya is named as Vice Captain of India.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who were sidelined from the National T20I side after the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia have made their spot back in the side. Sharma will captain the 15-membered squad of India which looks solid on paper for now.
The event's highlight is the return of Yujvendra Chahal to India's T20I lineup, and along with him, Shivam Dube also makes the cut. Shivam Dube, a hard-hitting Southpaw, was also included following a great IPL performance. He has an average of 58.33 and has scored 350 runs in the 9 innings of the IPL 2024 thus far.
It's interesting to note that KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are both absent from the team. Speculations were that Dinesh Karthik might find a ticket to the USA but BCCI went the other way. Sanju Samson was chosen as the second wicketkeeper-batter after Rishabh Pant in the India Squad for the T20 World Cup.
Samson has performed well in the Indian Premier League as both a batter and captain for the Rajasthan Royals. Rishabh's fitness was a concern but his remarkable performance in the IPL made him the first choice for the post.
There were no surprises in the selection of Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah to the India Squad. These 4 players along with skipper Sharma and Virat Kohli will be the core of the team. Selection of the second spinner in the playing 11 will be tricky as Jadeja and Axar can provide a batting backup, unlike Yuzi Chahal.
Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh are the two batting reserves, and Avesh Khan and Khalil Ahmed are the two bowling reserves in the India Squad. Below is the full Indian Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024:
