IND vs SA: South Africa press SOS after players go to hospital, immediately adds experienced pacer to the squad for Guwahati Test

South Africa beat India by 30 runs in the first IND vs SA Test.

In what has been the latest development, the South African National Cricket Team has added Lungi Ngidi to the squad for the second Test against the Indian Cricket Team. The match will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 onwards.

Lungi Ngidi has been added to the squad as a cover for Kagiso Rabada. The premier pacer missed the first IND vs SA test due to a rib injury and it came as a big blow. The fast bowler was expected to be fit for the second match but things look bleak now.

With South Africa calling Lungi Ngidi as a cover, this means that Kagiso Rabada is all but ruled out of the IND vs SA test. This will come as a huge blow as the Proteas would be eyeing a series win after winning the opening game by 30 runs in Kolkata.

Lungi Ngidi’s addition to the squad comes after a few of South Africa’s players went to Woodland Hospital in Kolkata for a check-up, but the exact reason is not known. Ngidi brings in with him experience but he hasn’t played much Test cricket in India.

The right-arm pacer has played just one game in India, where he bowled 20 overs, conceding 83 runs, without a wicket. Notably, India is the only place in the world, where he hasn’t taken a single wicket in the longest format of the game.

South Africa’s updated squad for the second IND vs SA test

Here’s South Africa’s updated squad for the second IND vs SA test

Temba Bavuma (C), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Zubayr Hamza, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Lungi Ngidi.

Having won the first Test, South Africa would be desperate to win the second match. If they manage to win the match, this will be their first series victory in India in more than 25 years.
