IND vs AUS 4th test: Smith To Lead In Ahmedabad, Cummins stays home: Pat Cummins, who left the tour after the second Test in Delhi last month, will stay at home, while Cricket Australia has confirmed that Steve Smith would once again command the Test team in their Border Gavaskar Trophy series finale in Ahmedabad Ind vs Aus 4th test.

Cricket Australia reports that no decision has yet been made about Cummins’ availability for the three-match ODI series that comes after the Tests. The fast bowler was also named the captain of the 50-over team last year.

Last week in Indore, Smith led Australia to a nine-wicket victory. India is up 2-1 in the series and need a win to go to the World Test Championship (WTC) final match.

Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the ODI series against India, which begins on March 17, after re-injuring his left hamstring while playing club cricket on the weekend. Nathan Ellis has taken his place on the team.

Smith stated he loved captaining in Indore while emphasizing that he still did not want the permanent position. He was astute in his field selections and his deployment of the team’s three spinners.

Smith told reporters after the nine-wicket win, “My time is done. It’s Pat’s team now. I’ve obviously been able to stand in this week, obviously in tough circumstances with Patty going home. Our thoughts are still with him back home.”

“But India is a part of the world I love captaining. it’s probably my favorite place in the world to captain. Every ball is an event and therefore can dictate what happens after, which is something that I really love and you’ve got to be ahead of the game.”

“So I thought I did it well this week and it was good fun,” he added.
