IND vs SA ODI Series - Shubman Gill unlikely to participate in the ODI Series, will Rohit Sharma make a comeback as the ODI Captain?

With Shubman Gill injured and doubtful for the ODI series against South Africa, the BCCI is considering bringing back Rohit Sharma as captain. Rohit, who has a strong ODI captaincy record, could replace Gill, who is recovering from a neck injury. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is also unavailable due to injury. If Rohit doesn’t take the role, KL Rahul, with prior captaincy experience, is another potential option.

Former captain of the Indian Cricket team Rohit Sharma was not handed over the captaincy in the 50-over series against Australia. Shubman Gill was made the regular One-Day International skipper in his place, but now the BCCI is preparing to make Rohit Sharma the captain of the ODI again. In fact, ODI and Test team captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury in the first Test match against South Africa, due to which he will not be able to play the second Test match against South Africa.

Not only this, there is doubt about Gill's participation in the three-match ODI series starting on November 30. In such a situation, who will captain the Indian team, this is the big question?

Who will be India's ODI captain?

If Shubman Gill is not well in the ODI series against South Africa, then who will be the captain in his place? Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will also not play in the series due to a rib injury. In such a situation, the BCCI's thinking about captaincy seems to be changing again.

According to reports, the BCCI has once again asked Rohit Sharma to take over the ODI captaincy. The team wants an experienced player to take over the command of the series. However, it is not yet clear from Rohit Sharma's side whether he will captain or not.

Rohit Sharma's ODI captaincy record

Rohit Sharma's ODI captaincy records have been quite spectacular. He has played a total of 45 matches as captain, out of which he has won 33 matches for the team. In 9 matches, India had to face defeat under his captaincy and two matches were also inconclusive. His winning percentage is 75. These figures show that Rohit is one of the most successful Indian captains in ODI cricket.

KL Rahul is also an option

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif described KL Rahul as the strongest captain option for the ODI series against South Africa. KL Rahul has captained India several times in the past and has also been the vice-captain in ICC tournaments. In such a situation, if Rohit Sharma does not do the white-ball captaincy, then KL Rahul can be handed over the captaincy in his place.
