ICC World Cup 2023: Young Indian batter Shubman Gill achieved a special feat as he became the new No.1 ranked ODI batter. The opener dethroned Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to attain the top position on the ICC ODI rankings. 

Shubman Gill has been terrific in the ODIs for the last one year and in such a short span of time he has developed himself into the mainstay of the Indian batting lineup. The young batter is the leading run-getter in the ODIs this year with 1449 runs to his name. 

Shubman Gill has smashed 5 hundreds and 7 half-centuries this year. The batted ended Babar Azam’s 951-day streak as a No.1 ODI batter. The young opener is currently part of the Indian squad for the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 and has been doing a decent job for the team. 

Shubman Gill missed the first two games of the ICC World Cup 2023 against India because he was down with dengue. After that, he played vital hands for the team. The batter recently smashed a staggering 92-run knock against Bangladesh and helped his team win the game.

Following his 92 against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill displaced Babar Azam from the top rankings. He would be hoping to keep the position for a long time now. The batter will be extremely important for the team going into the ICC World Cup 2023. 

Apart from Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli also climbed two spots. The senior batter is at No.4 in the ICC Rankings. Rohit Sharma is also in the top 10. The Indian captain bagged the No.6th spot.

ICC World Cup 2023: As Shubman Gill became the new No.1 ranked ODI batter, he joined the elite list of Indian players. The opening batter became the  2nd fastest Indian batter to be number 1 in ODIs after MS Dhoni in terms of innings. He joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to become a member of the elite list.
