Gautam Gambhir wants Rohit Sharma to take up all format captaincy of team India: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir reckons limited-overs skipper of team India, Rohit Sharma, should be appointed leader of all three formats of cricket to maintain uniformity in the style. Recently, Virat Kohli stepped down from his test captaincy which created hassle in the Indian dressing room.

It must be noted that Virat Kohli had also opted to relinquish his T20I leadership after team India’s flop show in the T20 World Cup 2021, however, in return the BCCI sacked Virat from ODI captaincy.

The world cup winning cricketer feels Rohit Sharma should be the right person to fulfil the role in all three formats with KL Rahul acting as his deputy.

“In my book, Rohit Sharma should lead India across formats with Rahul as his deputy. One captain across formats will ensure consistency in style and approach of the Indian team especially considering that we have another T20 World Cup later this year,” said Gambhir while writing his column for The Times of India.

The former opener further added that Virat Kohli left the Test captaincy with a well-settled team, however, the situation is not the same in the limited-overs Indian side. Team India have a few issues that need to be resolved in the white-ball games.

Gambhir termed team India test bowling resources to be ‘neighbour’s envy and owner’s pride.’

“Between the last Test and ODI series, the new space has been hogged by Virat resigning from Test captaincy. I think it is an individual’s call and that is how it should be treated. I think Virat left the Indian Test team in good health but I can’t say the same about white-ball cricket. Our bowling resources in Test matches are a neighbour’s envy and owner’s pride. They have shown time and again that they are the engine room for a team’s performance. In limited-overs cricket, I’d have liked to see a more settled middle-order which Virat couldn’t create,” added Gambhir.
