A huge news came on Tuesday from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) when Ben Stokes, the fast bowling All Rounder, decided to opt out of this year’s T20 World Cup. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be played in the USA and the West Indies in June this year.
England’s Test skipper, who scored the winning runs in the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup against Pakistan, decided to skip this year’s mega event, saying that ‘it’s a sacrifice which will allow me to become a proper fast bowling All – Rounder I want to be in the near future.’
So how will the 2022 T20 World Cup winners, under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, line up on the field to defend their title? The Three Lions have a pretty solid core at their disposal along with the presence of outstanding All – Rounders. The T20 International numbers of Ben Stokes are not that superb either and his absence will provide an opportunity to the youngsters to prove themselves at the biggest stage in the world of Cricket.
Jos Butter will be once again seen leading the Three Lions in the 2024 T20 World Cup and previous editions’s Man of the tournament, Sam Curran will be the main man of the 2022 T20 World Cup winners. The likes of Will Jacks, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone will provide an ample amount of support to Buttler and Curran.
Harry Brook, Jason Roy and David Malan will complete the batting unit of England and Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer will be a part of the bowling unit.
Jofra Archer has been struggling a lot with injuries in recent times but he’s in contention to feature in the T20 series against Pakistan and his return to the England setup will provide a huge boost to the defending champions.
Leg spinner Rehan Ahmed, who was a part of England’s squad for last year’s West Indies tour, is anticipated to partner Adil Rashid in the spin bowling department. The squad of the Britishers for this year’s World Cup will be similar to their 2022 World Cup squad with some minor changes but it remains to be seen whether Jos Buttler and Co can go on to defend their title or not?
