England vs India 5th Test: Match Preview

After an unusual gap of close to a year, England and Indian Test outfits will once again be under one roof to complete the five matches Test series that started in 2021. The two cricketing sides will lock horns for the fifth rescheduled test match, starting tomorrow (1st July) in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Earlier, the fixture was scheduled to be held at Manchester’s Old Trafford, however, the venue was later sifted to Birmingham.

The five matches series is currently in the grasp of the visitors who will be eyeing a victory in the last game to confirm their rare test series victory in England. India took a lead of 2-1, last year, in the first four matches.

The last time India won a Test series in England was in 2007. Under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy, India sealed a three matches Test series against England with a 1-0 lead.

Team India has suffered an early jolt as their skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the contest after contracting covid. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will be captaining the side in Rohit’s absence, while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was a key architect of India’s memorable run against England last year. The opener batter slammed over 300 runs in four test matches including a century to help India take a lead of 2-1.

Along with Sharma, his opening partner KL Rahul also played a pivotal role in demolishing the English test side. Unfortunately, Rahul is also not available for the test match due to his injury issues.

In 2021, England was led by Joe Root, but the command is now in the hands of flamboyant Ben Stokes and the fans will see a different look of the English side. The one-off test is equally important to England as well. The stakes are high for both sides and we are optimistic to see five days of fantastic cricket in the whites.
