Here is a look at the top 10 test batters currently in world cricket. I haven't included Kohli or Williamson as their form has been poor off-late.

Test Cricket is the flavor of the season and so test batters. Each team is playing test cricket currently. We have England going up against India and New Zealand, Bangladesh taking on the West Indies, and Australia locking horns with Sri Lanka. So, who are the top 10 batters in the red-ball format currently? Who are the players that can flip the game with the willow in hand? Here is an in-depth look at the same:

**The rating done is on current form and not on records**

10) Steve Smith is one of the top test batters:

Steve Smith and his dominance have been the talk of the town since the 2014 India Tour of Australia. Smith is a batter who has a class of his own. Off-late his performances have not been so great hence he has been placed lower on this list. The on-field antiques of Steve Smith are something that every cricket fan is aware of. He makes the boring red-ball game interesting.

9) KL Rahul is one of the Top Test Batters:

KL Rahul is the top test batter from India. Rahul alongside Rohit Sharma was unbeatable in the England Tour last year. His absence will be very crucial in the one-off test against England. Rahul has been dealing with injuries and has taken time off the game but when he will be back, he will be drafted directly to the main team. Rahul made a comeback to the opening spot in 2021 and ever since has made it his own.

8) Travis Head:

Travis Head is a style statement! Imagine having one of the best mustaches in world cricket and beating the hell out of the bowlers. He is one of the top middle-order batters in the game at the moment. He has risen through the ranks, slowly and steadily. Head was always a part of the Australian white ball circuit as a player who has potential, but in Ashes 2021 he turned potential into performance. His 2 hundred in the series came at a strike rate of almost 100!

7) Usman Khawaja is one of the Top test Batters:

From one Australian to another. Usman Khawaja and his performance in the 3rd Ashes test have got him this spot. After being sacked and then called back only to be given an opportunity in the middle order, Usman Khawaja has a story of his own. He made a dream comeback to the national team. Khawaja being left-handed gives the added dimension to the Kangaroos. His game against Jack Leach was too good.

6) Jonny Bairstow:

Jonny Bairstow is one of the most improved commodities in red-ball cricket. From his hundred in the Ashes, he has become a different player. Bairstow had a terrible 2021 test season. He was a walking wicket for the Indian team and Axar Patel was the one bullying him on the pitch. But Jonny has effectively altered his game. He believes in attacking and he has switched to the same. Bairstow was the hero for the English team in the series against New Zealand. He is also one of the faces of revolution in England white-ball cricket.

5) Daryl Mitchell is one of the Top Test Batters:

Daryl Mitchell is criminally underrated. He used his county experience to dominate the English bowlers in the England VS New Zealand series. The other Kiwi batters were struggling to deal with the swing of Broad and Potts while Daryl Mitchell was ripping them apart. He alongside Tom Blundell rescued the Black Caps from every difficult situation. Mitchell was a part of the county circuit since 2017 and he has invaluable experience of playing in English conditions.

4) Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Rajendra Pant is an entertainer in the red-ball format. When everyone expects Rishabh to play safe, Rishabh goes big! When everyone expects Rishabh to go big, he goes big! He plays the game, the way he loves it. This makes the game entertaining. On pitches where the team is struggling to hold the fort, Rishabh uses the “Attack is the best defense” strategy. His hundreds in Australia, England, and South Africa, and 10+ scores of 90, give a view of his potential.

3) Babar Azam is one of the Top Test Batters:

Coming to the fab 5 now. Virat and Kane Williamson are not in the best of forms and hence are not included in the list. Babr Azam however is the reliable rock for the Men in Green! Azam bullies the bowlers! When Australia visited Pakistan for the first time in 23 years, Babar Azam was the top batter for the Pakistanis. The tracks in Pakistan are flat but the batter does require skill to make effective use of the ideal conditions.

2) Marnus Labuschagne:

The first-ever concussion substitution in world cricket is a boon to the game. Marnus Labuschagne and his test debut are like a movie. Imagine being hit on the helmet on the first ball of your career, only to stand up and look back into the bowler’s eye. Labuschagne is a player of class and strong character. He has his unique style of play. He likes howling while on the pitch but he is very focused. His cover drives are elite. He is a very reliable number 3 batter.

1) Joe Root is one of the top Test Batters:

If there is one batter which is the daddy of the Australian and Indian teams, it is Joe Root. My man has been on a roll since the 2020 Sri Lanka series. He dominated Sri Lankan spinners, then dominated here in India, when India went to England, he slammed 3 hundred in 4 games. He was batting on a different parallel. Joe Root also played a crucial role in winning the third test against New Zealand.
