The Five-time Champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), entered the IPL 2026 Auction with a purse of Rs. 43.40 crore, as they were looking to rebuild their squad after a disappointing 2025 season. CSK had 9 slots to fill, including the 4 overseas spots, but they focused heavily on young Indian talent along with some smart overseas additions.

Unlike previous seasons where CSK rely on their experienced players and big names, the IPL 2026 Auction gave some glimpse of a shift in strategy. Chennai went aggressive for uncapped Indian players to build a strong Indian core for the future. CSK wasn’t active in almost half of the auction, but they still had some big buys.

CSK broke the bank for young Indian players Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma; they bought both players for Rs. 14.20 crore each, and with this, they became the most expensive uncapped Indian player in IPL history. CSK also added Kiwi star pacer Matt Henry and bought Australian batter Matthew Short to have depth in the batting order.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) filled some of the gaps, but they still need to figure out their perfect Playing XI for the upcoming IPL 2026 edition. The addition of both young batters is a good move, but whether they will be reliable options or not will be seen in the upcoming season.

CSK’s trade of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran for Sanju Samson with the Rajasthan Royals will be in favour of Chennai, is still a big question. However, it is quite clear that CSK is looking to the future, and they might not win the IPL 2026 season with this squad, but after one auction, they will be as good as RCB and MI.
