BREAKING: Shreyas Iyer reported critical in Sydney; Player admitted to ICU

Shreyas Iyer, ODI vice-captain of the Indian Cricket Team, was reported in critical condition and admitted to the ICU at a Sydney Hospital after a serious injury during the India vs Australia 3rd ODI in Sydney. The incident happened on Saturday, when Iyer was trying to take a spectacular catch running backwards from backward point to get the wicket of Alex Carey. 

He took the stunning catch, but right after the moment he took the catch, Iyer seemed to have some injury. As per the reports, Iyer has hurt his left rib cage severely, and there is internal bleeding; therefore, he is under critical medical observation. 

How did the injury happen?

During the India vs Australia 3rd ODI match in Sydney, Shreyas took an exceptional catch that covered a long distance. But the effort caused a heavy impact on his rib cage, and he initially went to the dressing room with medical staff, but the condition was serious, and the team's doctor and physio rushed him straight to the hospital.

Internal Bleeding and ICU Admission:

As per the media reports, Hospital scans confirmed that Shreyas Iyer was suffering from internal bleeding due to the rib cage injury. The situation is critical, and Iyer has been under observation in the ICU since Sunday.

He is likely to remain in the Sydney Hospital for a couple more days till his health becomes normal.  According to the source close to the team, "The medical team didn't take any chances and acted immediately." However, Iyer's condition is now stable but still critical.

Iyer is expected to stay in Sydney for a minimum of one week, after which a decision will be taken about his fitness for travel and further rehabilitation in India. He is not part of the T20I squad for the upcoming India vs Australia five-match T20I series.
