Ahead of India vs South Africa second Test in Guwahati, a major setback for India as captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second test due to a neck injury. Currently, South Africa is leading the two-match test series by 1-0, and the second test is very crucial for the Indian Team to draw this series to remain in a good position in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

However, Shubman Gill had travelled with the team in the hope of playing the second test, but the BCCI medical team had not cleared him to play. Rishabh Pant, who is currently the vice-captain of the Indian Test Team and now, will be lead the Indian Team in the second test in Guwahati.

What Shubman Gill will not play in the 2nd Test?

Shubman Gill suffered a neck spasm during the second day of the India vs South Africa 1st test in Kolkata. Gill didn’t bat in the first test match, and now, he will miss the second test as well. The upcoming few months are going to be very crucial as the T20 World Cup 2026 and some crucial series will be played.

Therefore, Many key players like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer will be rested to recover from injury and manage their workload.

No Gill in ODIs, Rishabh Pant to lead:

As per the TOI reports, Shubman Gill is also expected to miss the ODI series due to workload management. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also set to return to the Indian team after the Australia ODI series. Both the star players are expected to be part of the playing XI.

However, reports also suggest that Rishabh Pant will be leading the Indian Men’s Cricket Team in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. There was some speculation over Rohit Sharma to lead the Indian ODI team, but the chances are high that Pant will be leading the team, as Rohit is not interested in captaincy.
