Bangladesh OUT, Scotland IN

The International Cricket Council (ICC) reportedly replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the tournament. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on February 07, 2026, and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The decision comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to play its matches in India due to security concerns. However, ICC rejected the request after conducting independent security assessments and finding no serious threat. Despite all this, the Bangladesh Cricket Board maintained its stance and decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026.

ICC invites Scotland as a replacement

According to reports from Cricbuzz, the ICC has reached out to Cricket Scotland and invited them to replace Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is all set to start in just a few days. ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta reportedly informed the ICC Board regarding Bangladesh’s firm stance and also sent an email to Cricket Scotland CEO Trudy Lindblade.

If Scotland accepts the invitation, then they will be part of Group C in the T20 World Cup 2026. However, the chances are quite high that Scotland will accept the offer and will replace Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Why did ICC replace Bangladesh?

The issue started when the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) asked the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches out of India and host them in Sri Lanka due to security concerns. But the ICC turned down the request, and they said the security risk in India is low to moderate and there’s no concern for their players and officials.

However, despite this, Bangladesh’s stand remains firm; therefore, the ICC gave BCB a 24-hour deadline to confirm whether the team will travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. According to a report from Cricbuzz, Bangladesh failed to respond within the given time; therefore, Scotland is now replacing them in the tournament.
