Asia Cup 2025: What happened last time when India faced the UAE in a T20I game?
The Indian Cricket Team and the UAE Cricket Team are all set to lock horns with each other in the second match of the Asia Cup 2025. The match between the two teams will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (10th September).
This will be the first game for both teams in the Asia Cup 2025, and they would want to start the tournament on a high note. This will be the first time in nine years that both India and the UAE will be playing in a T20I game, with their last match coming during the 2016 Asia Cup.
It was India who registered an emphatic win over the UAE. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are the two players from the current squad who featured in that match. The Men in Blue would be keen to emulate the same result in the upcoming game and start the Asia Cup 2025 on a high.
What happened last time when India faced the UAE in the Asia Cup?
In 2016, India and the UAE clashed with each other at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Batting first, the UAE didn’t have a great outing with the bat as they got all out for 81 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Shaiman Anwar top-scored with his innings of 43 runs off 48 balls with three fours and a six.
For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 2/8 along with two maidens. The rest of the bowlers were also handy as they didn’t let the UAE batters settle at all.
In the chase, India came out all guns blazing with Rohit Sharma scoring 39 runs off 28 balls. Yuvraj Singh remained unbeaten on 25 off 14 deliveries as the Men in Blue chased the target with 9 wickets in hand.
During that season, India went on to win the Asia Cup. They defeated Bangladesh in the final to win the tournament.
