Asia Cup 2025 Points Table, Group A, Group B Latest Updated After Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan

Sri Lanka won their last group stage match against Afghanistan by 6 wickets, the player of the match was Kusal Mendis, who played a fantastic knock of 74 runs in 52 balls and led his team to the Super 4.

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan both played their last group stage game at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Sri Lankan team defeated Afghanistan by 6 wickets and got into the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2025. However, Afghanistan was eliminated from the tournament after losing the game against Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan could have played better cricket specially with the ball, as their bowlers failed to get some key players wickets in the early overs, which cost them the ticket to the Super 4 round. In this tournament, Afghanistan seems little struggling with their middle-order batting and bowling, especially pacers, as they couldn't get wickets in the powerplay, which opponents used to dominate in the game.

Sri Lanka played good cricket against Afghanistan; it was a pressure game for both sides, but Sri Lankan players used their experience and won a crucial game. Kusal Mendis scored 74 runs for his team and became the player of the match.

Afghanistan won the toss and they decided to bat, the decision doesn't came in favor as they lost a couple of wickets in the early overs. The top-order of Afghanistan went to the pavilion in the powerplay, and later Ibrahim Zadran tried to make some partnership, but he also got out by scoring just 24 runs.

Then, the Afghanistan middle-order again got exposed and they all got out, but Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan made a partnership and tried to have some runs on the scoreboard. Rashid got out by scoring 24 runs, but Mohammad Nabi played a fantastic knock of 60 runs in just 22 balls and led his team to a decent target of 169 runs in 20 overs.

From the Sri Lankan bowling side, Nuwan Thushara, who is known for his pace and variations, got four wickets in this match whereas Dushmantha Chameera, Dunith Wellalage, and Dasun Shanaka got one wicket.

The Sri Lankan Team easily chased the target of 170 runs in 18.4 overs. Kusal Mendis played a match-winning knock of 74 runs. In the end, Kusal Perera and Kamindu Mendis scored 28 and 26 runs, respectively, and led their team to win the match against Afghanistan by 6 wickets.

Afghanistan's bowling was not upto the mark in this match, their bowlers leaked a lot of runs, especially in the powerplay itself. Skipper Rashid Khan didn't get a wicket and gave around 23 runs in his 4-over spell.
