Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by wickets, Matheesha Pathirana took four crucial wickets: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh played the second ODI match of Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Matheesha Pathirana bowled a wonderful spell and led his team to victory as they defeated Bangladesh by five wickets.

Bangladesh came to bat but failed to have a good start, but Najmul Hossain Shanto batted fantastically and scored 89 runs in 122 balls. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan didn’t perform well with the bat and got only two wickets while bowling. 

The Sri Lankan Batters and Bowlers gave their best performance to win the match. Sri Lanka’s victory over Bangladesh made their way more clear for the Super 4 round. Matheesha Pathirana, also known as Baby Malinga, took four wickets in 7.4 overs.

The Player of the Match was Matheesha Pathirana, who showed good intent and played good cricket for his team on a big stage in a big tournament.

Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Pathirana’s impressive spell shattered Bangladesh Batting order:

Bangladesh won the toss and came to bat first. Both the openers got out in the powerplay by scoring single-digit runs, whereas Skipper Shakib also got out by scoring only five runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto played a crucial knock of 89 runs and stood alone for his team, whereas others lost their wickets. 

In the end, Bangladesh could have ended with 164 runs on the scoreboard in 42.4 overs. From the Sri Lanka Bowling side, Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets, and Mahesh Theekshana took two wickets.

In the Second Inning, Sri Lanka batters came to chase the target, but they lost their three wickets in the powerplay. After that, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka made a crucial partnership and led their team in a good position.

Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 54 runs in 77 balls with seven fours whereas Charith Asalanka scored 62 runs in 92 balls. They led their team to victory, and now, Sri Lanka occupies the top position in Group B.

From the Bangladesh Bowling side, Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets whereas Shoriful Islam, Mehdi Hasan and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each.
