Pakistan National Cricket Team's semi-final hopes are still alive, but it is completely dependent on the result of the match between England and New Zealand. Pakistan’s qualification will be decided by Net Run Rate (NRR). Currently, New Zealand has a very strong NRR of +3.050 while Pakistan has an NRR of -0.461.
Pakistan National Cricket Team's semi-final hopes are still alive, but it is completely dependent on the result of the match between England and New Zealand. Pakistan is currently in a difficult position in Super 8 group 2 as they not only need to win the upcoming game with a good margin but also depend on other teams to stay alive in the tournament.
England and South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals after winning both their matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 round. New Zealand, on the other hand, is in second spot with three points, and Pakistan has only one point in two matches; therefore, they are still looking for their first victory at this stage.
Pakistan will be playing their final group stage match against Sri Lanka, but they need to win that game with a huge margin. As of now, Pakistan is in third spot in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 Group 2 Points Table with 1 point and a poor net run rate of -0.461. Pakistan's qualification not only depends on this victory but also on New Zealand’s performance against England in their last group stage game.

Scenario 1: England beats New Zealand
If the England National Cricket Team defeats New Zealand, then kiwis will remain on three points, and their net run rate will also come down. This is the best possible situation for Pakistan, as they can also reach three points by beating Sri Lanka in their last match.
In this Scenario, Pakistan’s qualification will be decided by Net Run Rate (NRR). Currently, New Zealand has a very strong NRR of +3.050 while Pakistan has an NRR of -0.461. It means Pakistan will not only need to win against Sri Lanka, but they have to win the match by a big margin.
Scenario 2: New Zealand Beat England
If the New Zealand National Cricket Team wins against England, they will move to five points and with this, New Zealand will finish at top spot in Group 2 while England will finish at second spot with 4 points. Pakistan, on the other hand, will have a maximum of three points if they are able to beat Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 game.
So, if New Zealand wins, Pakistan will get directly eliminated from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 even before playing their final match.
Scenario 3: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Match Washed Out
If Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka gets washed out due to rain, then they will get eliminated as Pakistan will have only two points while New Zealand already have three points. So, Pakistan will be hoping that England beats New Zealand, and they won their last group stage game against Sri Lanka by a huge margin.
