Ajit Agarkar makes THIS huge request to BCCI; Know here
Ajit Agarkar has had a great success as Indian Cricket Team's selector
In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Times of India, it is learned that Indian Team selector Ajit Agarkar has sought an extension. The former all-rounder wants to continue till the 2027 World Cup and has some plans ready as well.
Ajit Agarkar has had great success as an Indian selector, and his contract was extended by just one year after IPL 2025. However, now he wants to stay for around two more years, and his request came at a time after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Earlier it was reported that, BCCI has identified his replacement and a former player from the West Zone was reportedly the front-runner to succeed. However, now it seems uncertain with Ajit Agarkar seeking a replacement.
Ajit Agarkar’s success as the chairman of selectors
Ajit Agarkar’s stint started poorly as India lost the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, after that things turned pretty well for him as India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Not only this, but he has also faced a lot of criticism as well. His first big decision was to name Suryakumar Yadav captain ahead of Hardik Pandya. Then, things turned worse for him when he sacked Rohit Sharma as an ODI captain, giving the onus to Shubman Gill.
Agarkar along with his panel, earlier comprising S Sharath (now replaced by Pragyan Ojha), along with Subroto Banerjee (now replaced by RP Singh), SS Das and Ajay Ratra, have done more than a commendable job in white-ball cricket.
Agarkar, if he gets an extension, would be keen to select a team that will win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. The event will take place in South Africa and Namibia and India would be the favourites to win under the leadership of Shubman Gill.
