Rohit Sharma almost confirms his retirement with this gestures
India captain Rohit Sharma yet again had a dreadful outing with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The skipper was back in the hut for a low score in the third Test against Australia, which is underway at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Rohit Sharma, who was unbeaten at the stumps on Day 3, resumed the batting on Day 4 and looked confident. The India skipper left the ball pretty well and also played a gorgeous cover drive as well. With the way he batted, it seemed that he would bail the team out of trouble.
However, this wasn't the case, as Pat Cummins had his number yet again. The India captain, after facing 27 balls, was back in the hut as the Australia skipper found the outside edge of his bat yet, and the skipper had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
As he walked back, he looked extremely dejected and had his head down. However, one gesture of his caught the attention of many, and it made many speculate that the captain might announce his retirement from the longest format of the game in the ongoing series as well.
Rohit Sharma leaves his gloves lying in front of the dugout
As Rohit Sharma walked up to the dressing room, he left his gloves lying in front of the dugout. This often is done by players when they are about to announce their retirement.
Here's the picture of his gloves:
Rohit Sharma ended with an innings of 10 runs off 27 balls. He has come under a lot of scanner for his poor effort with the bat in the entire Test season. He failed in both series at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand and also hasn't been at his best in the ongoing Test series against Australia.
Rohit Sharma failed in the Adelaide Test and it was expected he would be back among runs. But that hasn't been the case. The move to get back in the middle order surely isn't working for him, and it remains to be seen what will be his future in the longest format of the game.
With two more games remaining in the series, Rohit Sharma would want to reply to all the criticism in style. However, if he fails to set the stage on fire, it might be curtains for him in the longest format of the game.
