Yuvraj Singh arrested for making casteist remarks against Yuzvendra Chahal.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was on Saturday arrested by Hansi Police (Haryana) for allegedly making casteist slur during an Instagram live last year. He was, though, given interim bail on the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The 35-years old cricketer during an Instagram Live, conducted in April last year, with opener Rohit Sharma uttered some casteist remarks unknowingly against leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal which didn’t go well with Chahal’s fans. The people on social media has constantly targeted Singh multiple times and has often demanded apologies.

Rajat Kalsan, a lawyer from Hasni, filed a complaint against the former cricketer for his poor casteist comments after which action was taken against Yuvraj Singh and was booked under Sections 153A and 153B of Indian Penal Code Section 3(1)(u) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention and Atrocities) Act.

Nitika Gahulaut, Superintendent of Police (Hansi) confirmed the formal arrest of the Ex Indian cricketer and after which he was released on bail.

“We only made a formal arrest and he was released on bail in compliance of the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High court,” Nitika Gahulaut said.

The 2011 World Cup-winning cricketer has issued his apology for the same and has expressed his regret for unknowingly hurting people’s sentiments. 

“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” wrote Yuvraj Singh in his apology which was posted across his social media handles.

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal.”
