India batter Shubman Gill is not sure if he will be selected in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024 or not. The Gujarat Titans skipper is not focusing on the selection instead stated that he is currently focusing on scoring runs for his franchise in the IPL 2024

The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is likely to be announced in the coming days. Shubman Gill has been leading Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 but he isn’t having the kind of season he would’ve wanted. The batter has looked in decent touch but has looked well below the expectations.

Even though he has mustered 304 runs in nine innings at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 146.15, he looks below his standards. With a lot of contenders there for the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, his chances so far look bleak because others have been tremendous with the bat.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan are fighting for the top spot. There even have been reports which stated that Virat Kohli is also in contention to open the innings. Therefore it won’t be easy for Gill to find a place.

Shubman Gill, however, is not far ahead currently. The batter stated that he has been given a role by his team in IPL and is currently focussed on that.  In a conversation with PTI, he stated

“I am not thinking about my selection for the T20 World Cup. I have been given a specific role in the IPL by my franchise and I am concentrating on that. My priority now is the Titans team and the players involved. As a player, I’m only thinking about scoring runs for my team.”

Shubman Gill further said that even if he doesn’t get selected for the T20 World Cup 2024, he will be cheering for the team.  He made a bold statement also, saying that he scored around 900 runs in the last season, highlighting his desire to get picked for the team. In a conversation with PTI, he stated

“As a player, I learnt a lot from the World Cup in India. I realized the significance of playing a World Cup and it’s always a dream to represent India in the World Cup. But if I don’t make the grade this time after scoring nearly 900 runs (890 in 17 matches) last season, I can only say that I will cheer for the players and wish them luck.”

Shubman Gill will be keen to make a big impact in the second half of the game and force selectors to pick him in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024.
