"Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will play 2027 World Cup" Axar Patel laughs at Travis Head's remark on the Indian veterans
Ahead of the ODI series opener in Perth, the Indian all-rounder Axar Patel and Australian batter Travis Head had a word with the reporters, where Head heaped praises on the two Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and also backed their objective to play till the next World Cup.
The first match of the much-anticipated contest between the two teams will be played at the Optus Stadium on Sunday. The hype around this contest has been very high, not only due to the return of the Indian veterans but also to witness the two finalists from the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 come face-to-face against each other.
"Virat is probably the greatest white-ball player. Rohit is not that far behind." Travis Head heaped praises for the Indian greats
Ahead of the opening match between the two rivals of white-ball cricket, the Australian opener Travis Head, who loves to score runs against India, went on to hype the legacy of Indian greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He labelled Kohli as the greatest ever of all time and said Rohit is also not far behind.
“They have been awesome for India, I guess Axar can speak more highly about them than myself. But two quality players, two of the best white-ball players. Virat is probably the greatest white-ball player. Rohit is not that far behind," said Travis Head.
"I am sure they will be missed at some stage, but I think they both are going until 2027," said Travis Head
This is to be remembered: Head might be one of the reasons why Rohit and Virat are still hanging in to play the next World Cup. He was the player to have grasped the World Cup trophy from the grips of India on their home turf back in 2023. Considering Rohit's flawless batting at the top of the order, he has expressed his admiration for the batter's tremendous records.
With him also seeking answers with a sheepish look towards Axar Patel, he opined that the two players will continue till the next World Cup in South Africa.
“Someone who opens the batting. I have huge regard for what Rohit has been able to do. I am sure they will be missed at some stage, but I think they both are going until 2027 (looks at Axar Patel and the all-rounder smiles). They both are trying to get to the World Cup. It is great for the game that they are still playing,” he added.
Axar Patel did not give a verdict on this but rather responded with a smile. He, however, has said that the world-class players are preparing well for the series and are ready for the Australian challenge.
"They are world-class players. They know what to do, and they are ready to go. They are professionals and they know what to do. They are ready to go,” said Axar.
"Virat Kohli is full noise..." Matthew Hayden drops a bombshell on Virat Kohli
Heaping praise on the Indian veteran, not only as a batter but also as a truly defining character on the field, former Australian legend Matthew Hayden has lauded Virat Kohli for his cheerful antics on the field.
"Virat is high octane, he's a Ferrari. He's full noise; he'll be gesturing to the crowd. You'll have Jiostar that'll be focusing on everything he does on the cricket field. And everything is so big that it's hard not to polarise your views on it because he's so bloody good," Hayden said on All Over Bar The Cricket YouTube channel.
