"Rohit Sharma deserves Nobel Prize in Mathematics"- Fans troll India captain as team loses 15th consecutive toss loss in ODIs
The poor luck for Rohit Sharma continued in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand. The summit clash of the tournament between the teams is taking place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (9th March).
India captain Rohit Sharma faced another toss loss in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and it marked the 15th straight loss for the team in the ODIs. The opening batter didn't look amazed with another toss loss, and it could cost them the big final.
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. But losing the toss didn't seem to bother Rohit Sharma much as he mentioned that they are well aware of the conditions and he doesn't mind chasing the target in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Talking about the toss, Rohit Sharma mentioned that even in the dressing room, their conversation has been to not worry about the toss and to just play well. He said:
"We've been here enough, batted first and bowled first, don't really mind batting second. It hasn't changed much, we've chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of confidence and takes the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play.
"That's what we've spoken about in the dressing room, not to worry about the toss and to just play well, that's what we've done and we have to do today as well. New Zealand have been a very good team over the past so many years, they tend to play good cricket in ICC tournaments. The challenge for us is to play well against them now. Same team for us."
For Rohit Sharma, this was the 12th consecutive loss in the ODIs and he joined former West Indies skipper Brian Lara in losing most number of tosses:
Most consecutive tosses lost by a captain in ODIs
12 Rohit Sharma (Nov 2023 - Mar 2025)*
12 Brian Lara (Oct 1998 - May 1999)
