“I want to play, for sure”- Ravindra Jadeja breaks silence on his ODI snub, reveals huge truth about Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir
Indian Cricket Team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja opened up about his snub from the Indian ODI team for the upcoming Australia series. He openly mentioned that he wants to play the and his snub didn’t come as a surprise to him.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against the Australian Cricket Team. While the main highlight of the squad was Shubman Gill taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, one thing that caught notice was the snub of Ravindra Jadeja.
Ravindra Jadeja has been a consistent member of the Indian team in the ODIs. He was also part of the squad that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The all-rounder played a key role in that win and it was expected that he would be there for the Australia tour but that wasn’t the case.
While announcing the squad, Ajit Agarkar said that there is no place for Ravindra Jadeja in the current setup. However, he was quick to mention that the all-rounder is in the plans for the ICC World Cup 2027.
End of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series - Ravindra Jadeja
Few days after the squad announcement, Ravindra Jadeja finally broke the silence on his snub. He openly mentions that he wants to play but selection isn’t in his hands. He admitted that the captain, coach and selector spoke to him about his decision and he was happy about that. Speaking to reporters, he said:
"[Selection] is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure," Jadeja said at his press conference after the second day's play against West Indies in the Delhi Test. "[At the] end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series. They have talked to me, and it was not a surprise for me after the squad was announced.
"It is a good thing that they communicated the reason behind my omission. I am happy about that. But whenever I get a chance next, I will try and do what I have done all these years. If I get a chance in the World Cup and there are many ODIs before and if I do well there, it will be a good thing for Indian cricket. Winning the World Cup is everyone's dream. We had narrowly missed out the last time, the next time we will try and make up for it.”
It remains to be seen how Ravindra Jadeja can make a comeback in the ODIs. He would be keen to shine in tests and make his case strong.
