“Death-Like Situation” to “Out of ICU”: Shreyas Iyer’s Health Sees Dramatic Improvement

India’s star player, Shreyas Iyer, has gone from a life-threatening condition to a stable recovery after being moved out of the ICU in a Sydney Hospital. It's good news for all the fans, he is out of danger now, and his condition is pretty much stable after a scary on-field injury during the India vs Australia 3rd ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

As per the reports, Doctors at Sydney Hospital found that Iyer has a cut in his spleen (an organ in the upper-left abdomen), which caused internal bleeding. It was a very dangerous condition and could have been life-threatening if not treated on time. All credit goes to the BCCI medical team, who quickly took Iyer to the hospital.

How the Injury Happened?

The injury took place during the third ODI match between India and Australia in Sydney. While fielding, Shreyas Iyer took a brilliant running catch to dismiss Alex Carey, but he landed badly on his left rib area.

Firstly, it looked like a normal injury, but after he went back to the dressing room, Iyer’s situation started getting worse; he was feeling dizzy and weak. Iyer’s blood pressure dropped, and BCCI doctors noticed signs of internal bleeding.

He was immediately taken to the hospital (Sydney Hospital) for treatment. He was kept in the ICU for 2 days under the care of a specialist who was watching his condition closely.

Out of ICU and Recovering:

As of now, Shreyas Iyer was finally moved out of the ICU, and BCCI’s official statement on Iyer’s Condition, “Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury to his left rib cage while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. Scans showed a spleen injury. He is now stable and recovering well. The medical team in Sydney and India is closely watching his progress.”

However, despite Iyer’s being out of danger, he will stay in Australia for a couple more days as they want to monitor the situation for a few more days and see how he is recovering.

BCCI’s good gesture:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also began the arrangements for a family member to fly to Sydney. Fans praise the BCCI over this gesture and also for their quick response to Iyer's injury.
