Wriddhiman Saha’s Tweet Controversy against Journalist, BCCI calls for action.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a thorough investigation and taking strong action on the recent case of veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha’s Tweet controversy.

Wriddhiman Saha, who was dropped from India’s Test squad against Sri Lanka, was harassed and insulted by a journalist. The cricketer received a string of insulting WhatsApp messages from a journalist after he was dropped from India’s Test squad.

The cricketer on Sunday took to Twitter and shared a screenshot of a couple of messages from the journalist. He expressed his disappointment over the behaviour and treatment received from the “so-called” journalist.

The BCCI, soon after the incident was brought to the light, asked for strict action and said that the matter won’t be laid down to the rest until everyone concerned with the case isn’t investigated. The cricket board is also interested to know if any other cricketer has gone through such a crisis.

The official in the know of the development said that Wriddhiman Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI and the cricket board won’t let its players down.

“Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Saha earlier in an interview with ESPNcricinfo informed that the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly assured him of his place in the test side after he scored 61 runs against New Zealand.

“The biggest shock was that when I scored 61 against New Zealand in Kanpur despite being injured, Dadi (as BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is referred to), texted to congratulate me and said I didn’t need to worry about anything till he is there. Naturally, I was shocked at what I was told immediately one series after,” the veteran cricketer was quoted as saying.

The last few months haven’t been as smooth as they were earlier for the BCCI. The cricket board is stepping into controversies one after another every month. Starting from the controversy involving Virat Kohli and his demotion in the ODI cricket to, now, Wriddhiman Saha’s statements of Sourav Ganguly assuring him his place, it hasn’t been a cakewalk for the BCCI.

“First the Virat incident happened, then all this. And then he’s (Saha) posted that tweet of the screenshot (of messages he received from a journalist). What the h*** is happening? The Board has to act because enough is enough,” say those tracking developments.

It’s important to note that, a few reports have claimed that the BCCI President is also attending the selection meetings of the Indian cricket board in the recent past, which has reignited the controversy against Sourav Ganguly.
