The Giants were blown away by the Grace storm on Friday night and UP Warriorz earned two points to replace Mumbai Indians in the third position of the WPL Points Table. Power-hitting is not as easy as Grace Harris makes it look like. The Australian right-handed batter is known for her firepower and she displayed it against Gujarat Giants in the 8th match of the tournament played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Batting first, the new opening pair of Mooney and Wolvaardt entered the arena. Gujarat Giants were cautious to play big shots but still lost early wickets in the Powerplay. Harleen Deol was too defensive as she just hit one four in her innings of 24 balls and scored 18 runs.
A quick 30 of Gardner and 35 of Phoebe Litchfield helped Gujarat Giants to reach at least a fighting total. At the end of 20 overs Giants posted 145 runs on the board. UP Warriorz looked fearless and posted 40 runs in four overs and then lost the wicket of aggressive Kiran Navgire.
Soon after Navgire, Healy also departed and UP looked under a bit of pressure. Then came Grace Harris and she cleared her intentions right of the first ball of her innings with a four. With a firey 50 of just 30 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes, she led the way for UP Warriorz’ win.
