Women's World Cup 2025 Points Table: Clinical Bangladesh Defeat Pakistan by 7 Wickets, Shoma Akter and Rubya Haider Lead the Way

The Pakistan women's team experienced a disappointing defeat in their opening game of the Women’s One-Day World Cup. The Bangladesh women's team comfortably beat Pakistan by 7 wickets within 31 overs. Batting first, Pakistan was bowled out for just 129 runs.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bat, but this decision backfired against the Bangladesh bowlers. Marufa Akter took out Omayma Sohail and Sidra Ameen on the first two balls of the game. Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim managed to stabilize the innings briefly, but Nahida Akhter dismissed Muniba, who scored 17 runs. Aliya Riaz also departed after scoring 13 runs, and Rameen Shamim was dismissed by Nahida Akter after scoring 23 runs. Captain Fatima Sana attempted to steer the innings with a score of 22 runs, but no Pakistani player could produce a substantial score, and the innings concluded at 129 runs in 38.3 overs. Shorna Akter claimed 3 wickets for just 5 runs in 3.3 overs, including 3 maidens, while Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter took 2 wickets each. 

During the chase, Bangladesh lost Fargana Haque early on, and Sharmin Aktar was dismissed after scoring 10 runs. However, Rubia Haider took charge of the innings, becoming only the third Bangladeshi batswoman to achieve a half-century on her ODI debut. Skipper Nigar Sultana added 23 runs to the total, while Rubya Haider remained not out at 54 runs. 

The preliminary stage of the World Cup is being held in a round-robin format. Next, Pakistan will face India, against whom the Indian women's team has maintained a clean record. Following that match, Pakistan will contend with Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, England, and South Africa. The top four teams from the preliminary round will progress to the semi-finals. Notably, Pakistan has yet to secure a World Cup victory.
