The Indian men's team did not shake hands with Pakistani players during the 2025 Asia Cup. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has prohibited the Indian women's team from shaking hands with Pakistani players during the Women's ODI World Cup, which will take place in Colombo on Sunday (October 5), according to a news report of The Indian Express.

BCCI sources said the message to avoid shaking hands during the toss or after the game was conveyed just before the Indian women's team left for Sri Lanka on Wednesday. "The team will not shake hands with the Pakistani team during the World Cup. BCCI officials have informed the team about this. The Indian board will stand by its players," the sources said.

India and Pakistan have faced each other three times in the Asia Cup.

The Indian men's team faced Pakistan three times in the UAE during the Asia Cup , winning the final by five wickets. The Indian women's team will face Pakistan in their second match of the World Cup. They previously won their first league match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday (September 30).

India and Pakistan will face each other for the fourth consecutive Sunday.

The Indian women's cricket team is traveling to Sri Lanka to face Pakistan, as the BCCI and PCB have decided to play each other only at neutral venues. The Pakistan team will play all matches in Sri Lanka. Incidentally, this will be the fourth consecutive Sunday when a cricket match will be played between India and Pakistan.

Rivalry seen in Asia Cup

This was the first India-Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup since the Pahalgam terror attack in April. When the two teams clashed for the first time on September 14th, there were strong calls in India to boycott the match. Consequently, Indian players maintained their distance from the Pakistani team, refraining from shaking hands during the toss or after winning the match. Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the victory to the Indian Army and the victims of Pahalgam.

India did not get the trophy

After winning the final, India refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Pakistan's Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Consequently, the Indian team did not receive the trophy. After the ACC meeting on Tuesday, BCCI officials said that Naqvi failed to clarify when India would receive the trophy and individual medals, forcing him to leave the meeting midway.
